D-6 days

You can tell we are off camping this weekend, the weather has taken a turn for the worse. Just in case you were wondering, yes we do only have 6 days until D-day and yes we are going camping for 3 of those vital days! Are we completely mad - not yet, although getting closer every day.

Maybe it is the Bank holiday that has made the weather turn or maybe it is the fact that Thompy Femme has just bought a new swimming costume?

I left work today, bought the usual cake mountain, including some gingerbread people complete with icing tube and smarties and jelly tots allowing you to create either a gingerbread man...or woman. Funny how sometimes the simple things are the most fun. Add in a beer in the pub garden at lunchtime with work friends and these simple things added up to make it a fine last day.

Top news

President Obama making himself responsible for sorting the oil slick crisis...shouldn't he have done this already?

Top 3 things

D-7 days

Wondering if this should be I-x days rather than D? Think that D is pretty standard, well it is for a military operation...which is what this feels like!

Funny day today, lots of niggling, crappy issues at work, actions of the Project Office variable, reminding me a bit of the Indian Authorities!

One member of the team hasn't embraced the swearbox proclaiming that he doesn't earn enough money to fund a swearbox for the amount of swearing he needed to do to get through a working day!

Bit more DIY done after work, checked accounts and Thompy Femme had a nice relaxing massage. MX5 insured for Dad to drive, excess wine taken back to Majestic and more money disinvested to hopefully fund the last of the spending required before we go. Flights booked, trying Kingfisher this time, attracted by the bar and sofa onboard the plane! Also £1500 cheaper than the equivalent flight with Jet Airways!

What is left on the list? Plenty but with the Visas in place feels like a weight lifted.

News story?

Local news - story about young girls becoming private eyes, aparently they don't attract attention standing on street corners with mobile phones and headphones in!

3 best things

Great drive in the MX5, will miss her.
Darcy bathing with Susie and destroying the calm by having a poo in the bath - very funny
Spoke to my brother this evening, first time in a while, nice to catch up

D-8 days

This blog will follow the trials and tribulations of the Thompys on Tour as we make our way to India and experience the adventures that await us all.

Introducing the Thompys - Thompy (Simon), Thompy Femme (Susie), Thompy Junior (Max) and Stompy Thompy (Darcy)

So where are we now and what have we achieved?

D-8Days, still at home in Salisbury

The Entry Visas turned up today, slight delay following the last minute extra info requests from the Indian Embassey although a whole week left before we leave. The pressure to get to this stage has been enormous, an emotional roller coaster. Dogs have been packed off to France, house is now rented out, car sold, one cat to Lymington, just remembered our other cat Molly who lives in a wood shed down the road and turned up hungry today! Post redirected, new laptop purchased for essential SKYPE calls, new accounts set up, masses of photocopies of all paperwork for the FRRO registration when we arrive....what have we forgotten, have we got the energy to try and think of anything else we need to do! Last few days at work, trying to tidy up loose ends, kids had their BCG injections today, Max freaked out and had to be restrained, Darcy blissfully unaware of what was going on....until the Nurse stuck a needle in her arm! Sleeping on a blow up airbed as all of our beds have been packed and are on their way to India by Sea. Just looking forward to getting on the plane next Thursday evening and resting as there is nothing more we can do for the life we leave behind us.

Top news story

The couple who were kidnaped by Somali Pirates 7 months ago - 7 months, the poor people, I can only hope that a way forward is found to release them.

Top 3 things

Car V5 turned up which means we can sell it tomorrow - phew!
Introduction of the team swear box which raised a laugh - helped reduce the stress.
Max and Darcy are back home - it was nice to go for a drink after work last night with Susie, although we did discuss about the move!
