Dashain is the main Nepalese Festival, think of our Christmas celebration in terms of size and importance.
Woken by blaring music at 5am, to be fair this wasn't that strange but this time it was different music. The other reason for the music is that it tells you when the electricity supply gets turn on again. If you leave your radio on then the music alerts you that you have power once more!
Daily motivational video from Radhey.
Hot sweet tea for breakfast, I'm not risking anything to eat for at least another 24 hours which could be easier said than done with the relentless attempts by Aama to feed you massive portions of food at each meal time!
All packed and ready to leave for PPV by 6.30am, hike up to the top of the Community to get the Jeep to the start of PPV and our first sight of the Community where we will be actually carrying out the Program work.
PPV is the Project Planning Visit for the Community where you will be working. Its the initial assessment with the NGO Project Partner (Non-Government Organisation - Goreta Gorka) and sets the scene for the next 3 phases of work which will take us all the way to End of December.
The PPV includes gathering data such as the GPS coordinates for the CASEVAC (Helicopter) and MEDIVAC (Jeep) extraction sites in case of emergencies. So much of Raleigh is based on Military standards of protocol as we are going further into remote communities than any other NGO/INGO (International Non-Government Organisation) and have to be ready for anything. I have even been trained to inject Adrenaline, Antibiotics and Diazepam....although to be fair I bloody hope I never have to even open the Medical Bag!
The Community work I'll be managing is in Dashiswara a beautiful older Community with simply breathtaking views over the Valley and Mountains. Community size is around 37 houses, 8 public tap stands and is mainly a Farming Community. The caste is Gurung which is the caste that the Ghurka's come from, so most people wandering about which machetes hanging off their belts!
Still not eating, new Aama is very concerned and I am still having to politely fight off the relentless offers of food! However, Aama did make me what is now referred to as Magic Tea - Ginger, Honey and Lemon. Just the job. Feeling better with every cup (7 and counting today!)
