30/09/19 No DGR

Today is the Worldwide Distinguished Gentleman's motorcycle ride in aid of Men's Health Charities.  I'm missing it again although I did optimistically think that I might be able to see the Kathmandu meeting instead.  No such luck, I'm staying in a remote community in the Gorka region in the Mountains.

Susie is taking part in the Salisbury DGR for the first time, riding her little 125, sadly the Monkey Bike wasn't quite ready in time.  So proud of Susie learning to ride, getting dressed up in her finest outfit, wearing my tweed trousers and going out and being part of this great event.  I think she had great fun despite the slightly damp conditions and has made some more biker friends in the process.

Back in the Community we had a go at building the tap stands and washing stations that make up the WASH program initiative.

WASH - Water (and) Sanitation, Hygiene

The tap stands are used to deliver the water to each house in the Community, in support of the Nepal Government's directive that every house has access to their own water supply.  The tap stands are still outside of the house but close enough that they can be used for washing, food prep and hand washing etc.  The Washing stations are simply a drainage area, with a raised section to sit a water container on and are located near to the outside toilet so that hand washing can take place before doing anything else.

First glimpse of a snow capped Mountain.  The first time you can't quite take in what you are seeing.  You are already high in the Mountains, the cloud base is pretty close and then the layers of cloud part and 000's of metres higher that where you are the snow capped peak is revealed...….and you feel very small indeed!
