16th January 2011 - High as a kite

Obviously as it is the start if the kite flying session (!) You have to kick it off with a kite flying festival! Armed with 5 papers kites (Rs10 or 15p each) and a thousand metres of sharp thread* we set off to the Renaissance Hotel to get flying. First off we decided to prepare ourselves by lounging round the pool for a few hours, calm only broken by Darcy announcing that she'd poo'd her swimsuit! Our initial attempts to fly these little single string kites wasn't very successful although soon we had attracted some 'staff' who got our kites flying all we had to do was hang onto the rapidly spooling string as the kites hit the airstream. After about 30 mins flying we reached the end of our thousand metre string and I have to say completely lost sight of the kite too. We left Jason there still flying having reached the end of one lenght of string and well onto his second! We must have caused confusion for the real kites trying to catxch their fish supper on the lake, not to mention the water buffalo with kite string hanging off his horns!

*sharp string used for kite fighting, the idea being you cut through you opponents sting!
