It's really odd how many lines from films I've been reminded of whilst being in Nepal. It was the turn of Hot Fuzz yesterday. Everywhere you look people are carrying the same curved knife on their waist at the back, in a little wooden carrying block. Ready to cut Maise, the heads off chickens, vegetables for Dal Bhat, or anything else that needs a sharp blade at a moments notice:
'Everyone and their Mums is packin round here'
'Like who?'
'Farmers'
'Who else?'
'Farmer's Mums'
Withnail & I was favourite on Trek
Contemplating how to kill a chicken for supper] It's got dreadful beady eyes, they stare at you. Best kill it quick before it tries to make friends with us. '
'I been watching you, especially you, prancing like a tit. You want working on, boy!'
And just in general (as it is against Raleigh code of conduct to drink):
'We want the finest wines available to humanity. We want them HERE, and we want them NOW'
On the dig today I had an exciting discovery. The trench was about 50cm deep and I found a flipflop buried. I've sent it off for plastic dating, I'm thinking it could be early 2000s.
The kids did some drawings for the school session on Friday. The theme is sharing the many different cultures.....what could possibly go wrong.
Dal based curry soup and Roti for dinner which made a nice change.
Spent some time in the outhouse which is the kitchen watching the Roti being made. Insides thick with blackened soot stained walls and ceilings and a heavy fug of smoke hanging in the air. I lasted 10 minutes in there before I had to get out. Grandfather was in there the whole time smoking cigarettes!
