23/11/19 Rest day in Lapa Guan

So glad we switched the schedule around before we left Borang, we're roughly halfway through trek and the extra break I hope will make a real difference.

This is definitely the hardest physical challenge I have ever undertaken in my life!

A little lay in today, although our room is right above a shop and a public washstand so the morning cacophony of throat clearing and spitting is loud and clear through the wriggly tin wall. At least the Cockerell waited until 6am to get started.

Colder today, clouds covering the sun and obscuring the view. After breakfast did a bit of hand washing and erected a temporary line on some spare land. One end tied to an electrical pole and the other to a long piece of metal we found and then secured using rocks we found laying around. All a bit crooked but it held and everything dried.

Quick coffee and cupcake down at the little bakery we'd found the day before and a general chat about the 1:1's we'd carried out earlier.

By the time we got back to the hostel the rest of the team were playing football with the Nepali locals. Large patch of hard packed mud made up the pitch with jumpers for goal posts. Very energetic game and a very large number of people on the field so at times difficult to make out where the ball actually was. Local supporters climbed onto the roof of the old school building to get a better view.  End result was a win for the Raleigh team as the mountain mist rolled in obscuring visbility.

Tonight we've paid for wood so we can have a campfire. It was 500R which we were given by a lovely man in Tawal, apparently he was given a large sum of money by the President of Singapore and he gives it away. The fire was a good end to rest day, even if poor Miles didn't manage to get his beautifully set fire to light. Cowboy (one of the old trek guides) got the fire going with a crisp packet and some ply he'd pulled off an old classroom wall!

I had a laughing fit.

Tomorrow we trek back to Borang
