Today was supposed to be a rest day but we decided to hike to the hotsprings we'd been told about. The hike was down into the valley, across a bridge, up the other side then back down into the next valley. It took us 2 hours to reach the hot spring.
Not sure what to expect but pleasantly surprised. The biggest surprise was just how hot the water was considering it flowed out of the mountain down a stone drain and then into the 2 pools (one for men and women). No idea what the temperature was but image a bath you'd just run with hot water only and that gives you some idea!
On the walk we passed a number of ladies carrying various heavy loads. The most impressive was the one carrying two 6ft long lengths of timber sideways along a very narrow mountain path.
In places the path today was very narrow with drops straight into the valley. At one point the narrow path had fallen away and a make shift tree trunk had been used to brace the remaining path.
Together with the constant signs warning of landslide it served as a reminder of how dangerous our trek actually is. In addition, one of the wire bridges we had to cross was limited to 3 people at a time. All added to the excitement of being suspended 100ft above the rocky riverbed and the raging torrent of water.
Back at the hostel, the owners have been busy slaughtering a Buffalo so it is 'Buff' tonight to accompany the Dal Bhat. Not for me though, I'm being a good vegetarian.
I'm typing this blog laying on my hard bed (more like a table), the Aama in the room below cooking on an open fire so our room is thick with smoke. Reminds me of being in a nightclub back in the 90s!
