2am wake up, Miles is in a bad way and I go and get Catherine to check him out. No sleep, checking observations, holding and emptying sick buckets (also used for washing up!)
Staring to think that we may need to Casevac (helicopter extraction) if he doesn't improve.
There are a number of landslides on the Mule trail and we are 5 hours away from any real road. I spent an hour double checking potential Casevac sites, the one recorded was not suitable for a safe landing. Two locations found, the one right at the top of the mountain even had a concrete patch with a red 'H' painted. Turns out the one of the Nepal Member of Parliament has a house there......
As the day wore on, the Casevac was reduced to a Medivac (Jeep extraction) although this relies on Miles being able to walk for 3 hours to get past the landslides so the Jeep can make it. At present a walk of this length seems unlikely.
7am morning call arranged with Raleigh HQ, we'll be given the instructions on how to proceed. Potential options include staying put in Borang for another day or splitting the group, majority to complete the remaining 4 days of trek, remainder to stay in Borang until the 3 hour walk can be completed.
The Tihar celebrations continue, lots of dancing, music and flat donut like treats called Puri. The next door neighbour gave us some fresh Puri at breakfast, they were warm, soft and delicious. Later in the day we were offered more, these had been hanging about a bit and were very chewy!
Daylong observations with Miles, no real sign of improvement, even the antisickness meds making him throwup. We've now used every available washing up bowl so a bleach wash is required!
Topped the day off with some traditional dancing. The group joined in with the dancing and it certainly helped warm up.
I'm on for 10pm and 12 midnight observations so sitting up whilst others play cards. Feeling exhausted so ideally we'll be advised by Raleigh to stay put tomorrow!
A few messages back and forth with Susie, she mentioned that she's been asked to talk at Yes Stories London which is amazing. So proud especially as it comes hot on the heals of her Radio debut and 4 days filming with Facebook. 2019 has been a great year for the Thompys.
